Is your letters and sounds instruction lacking in the engaging department?
Maybe in the effective department?
And, dare we say, in the Science-of-Reading department?
If so, we have good news for you!
We're Erin & Kally, two reading specialists who left their jobs with a dream and a desire to impact student literacy in a bigger way.
For the last several years, we've been working with kids in reading intervention, co-teaching in classrooms, and refining our teaching methods.
This past year, all was going fine and well (and totally comfortable) until our principal asked us to co-teach in Kindergarten classrooms.
You see, we had been co-teaching in 1st and 2nd grade classrooms for a couple of years, modeling how to incorporate a structured literacy approach to phonics.
We were using the knowledge that we'd gained during our Orton Gillingham training and practicum, and applying it to whole group instruction.
It had gone so well that we were now being asked to do the same thing in Kindergarten.
When our principal tasked us with this challenge, we hesitantly happily accepted and then promptly walked back to our rooms and closed the door. We looked at each other, and said, "KINDERGARTEN?!"
True story.

To be honest, we were completely terrified.
Have you ever heard the saying, "Everyone is in awe of the lion tamer in a cage with half a dozen lions. Everyone but the Kindergarten teacher." 🦁
If you are a Kindergarten teacher, we give you mad props.
Despite feeling wholly inadequate, we decided to learn all that we possibly could about how to teach letters and sounds in a science-of-reading backed way.
Fast forward to our first day teaching in Kindergarten. We were both sweating bullets.
To our surprise, though, the Kindergarteners welcomed us with open arms (and maybe a few snotty noses). We began to look forward to our daily Kindergarten lessons, and the kids were engaged and growing!
A couple months later, we finished up our Kindergarten co-teaching assignment. It had gone amazingly well.
Better yet, the kids grew leaps and bounds in their letters and sounds knowledge... and they were already blending and reading words!
Now, we've taken all that we learned during those Kindergarten days to create a resource that has everything you need to teach letters, sounds, and beginning blending skills in a Science-of-Reading backed way.
We understand how hard teachers work, and how much you personally invest into your students.
That's why we're offering these lessons to you at a crazy low price.

Take a Peek Inside A Letter Lesson

1. Review
Every lesson begins with a cumulative review of the letters and sounds that have been previously taught.

2. Guided Discovery
Students are guided to discover the new letter and sound with "What do you HEAR that's the same? What do you see?"

3. Explicit Teaching
Explicit teaching follows. Students find the letter on an alphabet arc and learn whether it is a vowel or consonant.

4. Sound Exploration
Students learn how to correctly articulate the new sound and choose whether it's a voiced or unvoiced sound.

5. Thumbs Up Or Down?
A fun game of "Thumbs Up or Down?" comes next, complete with sound effects and fun animations for engagement.

6. Letter Formation
Students learn how to properly form the capital and lowercase letter and are encouraged to "sky write" the new letter.

7. Student Foldable
A student practice foldable is modeled. The directions for each page are explained and then students can complete and check.

8. Celebration!
Finally, the lesson ends with lots of praise and a celebration. The new letter has been successfully launched!
See It In Action
Watch as a new letter gets launched. Exciting animations and sound effects will keep your students engaged throughout! (Note- for this video's purpose, we clicked very quickly through the slides. You can take as long as you want on each slide when teaching!)
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the order of the letter lessons?
Letters are taught in groups. After each group is taught, a blending lesson follows with all of the letters & sounds that have been learned so far. This allows students to get introduced to blending early on. The letter groupings are as follows:
Group 1: A, M, S, T + Blending Lesson
Group 2: P, F, I, N + Blending Lesson
Group 3: D, O, C, K + Blending Lesson
Group 4: U, B, G, E + Blending Lesson
Group 5: H, R, L, W, J + Blending Lesson
Group 6: Y, X, Q, V, Z + Blending Lesson
How do the LIFT OFF! lessons align with other programs?
The LIFT OFF! lesson groups align almost completely with the UFLI scope & sequence.
Approximately how long does each lesson last?
We understand that young learners have short attention spans! That's why we created the LIFT OFF! letter lessons to only last between 10 and 15 minutes. We pack a LOT of learning into a short amount of time. However, you can spend as much or as little time as you'd like on each slide of the lesson. You know your students best!
