Help Your Child Keep Their Reading Progress Strong This Summer
(and build confidence at the same time)
Summer is a time for sunshine, swimming, and slower schedules—but it can also be a time when reading skills slip.
Up & Away Literacy's Summer Reading Clubs are designed to keep your child practicing, growing, and feeling confident with reading so they’re ready to start the next school year strong.
Located in Marysville, Ohio, these small-group tutoring sessions combine structured literacy instruction, engaging reading practice, and just the right amount of summer fun!
Without consistent practice over the summer…
- Reading can start to feel harder again
- Confidence drops quickly
- Skills your child worked hard on begin to slip
The good news?
This is completely preventable—with the right kind of support.
Summer Reading Clubs are designed for:
Rising 1st Grade – Rising 4th Grade Students
Perfect for children who:
-
Need extra reading practice
-
Are learning foundational reading skills
-
Could benefit from small-group support
-
Want to build confidence as readers
Each group is intentionally small (limited to just 4 students) so every child receives meaningful instruction and support.
How the Clubs Work
Your child will meet with their reading club once per week on Wednesdays for 8 weeks total. Clubs begin on Wednesday, June 3rd. (To see a full list of dates, check out the FAQ section at the bottom of this page.)
Each session includes:
-
50 minutes of small-group instruction
-
Explicit, structured reading practice
-
Hands-on activities and games
-
Decodable text reading to build real reading confidence
Practice Between Sessions
Â
Reading growth happens with consistent practice.
After each session, students will bring home their Reading Club Notebook, which includes:
-
Word lists to practice phonics skills
-
A decodable reader to build confidence
-
A fun literacy game or activity
These simple activities help reinforce the skills learned during tutoring and keep reading fresh all week long!
The Motivation:
Ice Cream Sundae Celebration!
Â
Every time your child completes their weekly practice activities, they earn a topping for an ice cream sundae!
At the end of the summer, we’ll celebrate all their hard work with a Reading Club Ice Cream Sundae Celebration, where students can build their sundaes using the toppings they earned throughout the summer.
It’s a fun way to keep kids motivated and excited about reading all summer long!

Hi, I'm Erin!
Founder and Owner of Up & Away Literacy
I'm a reading specialist with more than 20 years of experience. I've taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade, worked as an elementary reading specialist, and now support struggling readers in grades K-3. I am an Orton-Gillingham certified instructor (CALP) and a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (SLD-I).
Helping children learn to read is something I care deeply about. I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when a child finally feels confident with reading—and how life-changing that moment can be.
I love partnering with families and teachers to support children as they grow into confident readers who believe in themselves. My goal is simple: to help children experience success and find joy in reading.

Give Your Child a Confident Start to Next School Year
Summer Reading Clubs are intentionally kept very small (just 4 students per group) so each child receives the attention and support they need to grow as a reader.
Because of this, spots are limited and tend to fill quickly.
